Onsy Nkrumah announces candidacy for CPP flagbearership in 2024 general elections

The son of Ghana’s first president, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Onsy Kwame Nkrumah, has formally announced his intention to run for the Convention People’s Party (CPP) flagbearership position in the impending 2024 general elections.

In a recent interview, Onsy Nkrumah spoke passionately about his choice and his desire to uphold the legacy of his legendary father and address the nation’s ongoing underdevelopment issues.

He emphasized his belief that successive governments have fallen short of meeting the expectations of the Ghanaian people, and he firmly believes that the CPP is the only political entity capable of ushering in meaningful change.

Nkrumah articulated his vision, saying, “The NDC will also take care of their own, the NPP will take care of a small number of associates or family members. But more than 90% of Ghanaians are suffering, and both are either NDC or NPP. So I’m not impressed with what NPP or NDC has shown us so far.”

He continued, “So I’m praying CPP is revived and trusted to come back to power this coming year. I’m trusting God that I will be the flagbearer for CPP. I wish to stand to serve my people and to continue my father’s great works.”

Nkrumah’s announcement comes at a pivotal moment for the CPP, as the party recently launched a re-organization booklet on September 2, aimed at invigorating the party’s grassroots and solidifying its position ahead of the highly anticipated 2024 general elections.
