The Deputy Minister of Works and Housing, Freda Prempeh has said her ministry is working assiduously to have one thousand affordable housing units left to rot completed this year.
She claimed that the Ministry is working with some Private Partners to complete the affordable housing units that were left to rot by the immediate past National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration over the years.
She says the completion of the affordable housing units in Eastern Region, Ashanti, Greater Accra Region and Northern will be completed to meet the housing demands of the country.
She said even though research has shown that Ghana has a housing deficit of 1.7 million, she fervently believes that figure is wrong and that the country has a deficit of over two.
The Deputy Minister and Member of Parliament(MP) for Tano South in the Brong Ahafo region made this disclosure on the ‘Epa Hoa Daben’ show hosted by Kwame Afrifa-Mensah on Accra-based Happy FM.
With the Private sector support the ministry is hoping to build additional ten thousand affordable housing units across the country to serve the teeming workforce.
She revealed that the president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is committed to building affordable housing units for the middle –class workers
She stressed that the housing industry is capital intensive and the ministry needs investor support to ensure sanity in the system.
There are several proposals on the table to provide affordable housing unit she said
