The National Union of Okada Riders has called for regularization of commercial Okada operation as it has become part of the transport sector.
According to the union, there is no regularized plan for their operations in the country.
Speaking at a press conference earlier today, the National Spokesperson for the Union, Solomon Akpanaba mentioned that, motor riders in the country operate without going through training and education on basic road rules which, according to him, forms part of the road accidents recorded in the country.
‘’Currently, it’s interesting for Ghanaians to be informed that all the motor riders in the country are operating without any place of riding skill acquisition. Riders in Ghana are required by law to acquire riding license without training. This is a basic error resulting into thousands of avoidable accidents’’.
Mr. Akpanaba emphasized the need for riders to acquire licenses only after training recognized by the state.
“Even with the license acquisition, it comes without training and education”.
‘’Dr. Bawumia has always said he believes in data yet, he doesn’t have that of Okada riders’’, he noted.
