The Public Relations Officer of the Okada Riders Association, Solomon Akpanaba has stressed that the Okada business has reduced the high level of unemployment in Ghana.

According to him, almost 80% of Okada riders are artisans and graduates who have ventured into the business due to unavailability of job opportunities.

In an interview with Kwadwo Sefah-Danquah on Happy 98.9 FM’s Morning Show, the PRO stated that apart from the employment avenues provided, the Okada business contributes a lot to the transportation system in Ghana.

“For instance, a lot of remote areas are inaccessible by vehicles, but with the help of motorbikes, people can access those places without any difficulty. Also, with the help of Okada riders, longer distances that will take hours to reach, are shortened when one takes Okada rides”.

He added that motorbikes can help respond to emergencies faster to curb whatever the situation maybe compared to cars.

“Since the Okada business has offered a lot of job opportunities to the unemployed, it has also reduced high level of crime”, he added.
