Ofosu Ampofo is confusing you – NDC faithful’s told

I expect the police to clear my name -Ofosu-Ampofo

Leadership of Ghana’s leading opposition, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), is feared to be leading its members and the party into the ditch, and possible a defeat in the 2024 general election.

Editor of the Republic Press newspaper, Samuel Frimpong, is afraid utterances of the National Chair of the party, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo is a great disservice to the NDC.

“We have spoken about issues surrounding the Ghana card for a while now and I can say our digital migration drive is something we should all support and commend. I have so many cards for different purposes which you have to carry around but if we have reached the point where all these cards are being captured on one platform then that’s good. But because of partisan politics we are trying to destroy this.

When one party is in power it supports all agendas of the gov’t but is against them when in opposition and this is a cycle which takes place over and over again. So, the leadership of the NDC has asked their members not to partake in the Ghana card registration causing so many controversies. But in the mist of all these things, the leadership of the NDC has become double tongued, especially Ofosu Ampofo. I think he is doing a great disservice to the NDC,” he told Samuel Eshun on the Happy Morning Show.

According to the Deputy Chairman of the Electoral Commission (EC) in charge of Corporate Services, Dr. Bossman Asare, the Ghana card will be a requirement for voting in the 2024 election.

In an interview, the EC official opined that without a Ghana Card, one will not be registered to vote, warning prospective voters to obtain their Ghana Cards.

Addressing the issue, Samuel Frimpong indicated that the EC declared their intensions long ago and expected the NDC to encourage its members to register for the card instead of advising them against partaking in the exercise.

“The Ghana card will not be used for elections only. There will be other uses of the Ghana card and today the latest statement from the General Secretary of the NDC is that he suspects the ruling government and EC will rig the election because of this new directive. If you hear comments like this then you ask if the leadership of the NDC is okay,” he lamented.

The editor argues elections are determined by a myriad of factors and not just the possession of a Ghana card.
