The NDC minority group in Parliament, the pressure group Arise Ghana, and other concerned organisations have drawn a sizable crowd of demonstrators to Obra Spot in Accra to begin the #OccupyBoG protest.
The primary objective of the protest is to demand the resignation of the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Ernest Addison, along with his deputies.
The demonstrators have leveled allegations against Dr. Ernest Addison, accusing him of mismanagement that has purportedly led the central bank to the brink of bankruptcy. Additionally, they claim that under his leadership, there has been a pattern of extravagant spending, exemplified by the construction of the new $250 million Bank of Ghana headquarters.
The #OccupyBoG protesters are expected to march through several key locations in the city, including Adabraka, Ridge roundabout, the National Theatre traffic light, the High Court complex traffic light, and the Atta Mills High Street. The march will culminate with a U-turn at the National Lottery traffic light, concluding at Independence Square.
Prominent members of parliament have also joined the demonstration in solidarity with the protesters. Notable attendees include Madina MP Francis Xavier Sosu, North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, and Lawra MP Bede Ziedeng. Their presence underscores the significance of the protest and its resonance within the political landscape.
The #OccupyBoG protest has garnered attention and is expected to raise questions about the leadership and financial management of the Bank of Ghana.
