Kwabena Boateng of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has won the Ejisu by-election.
He secured 27,782 votes, which accounts for 55.8% of the total votes cast.
His closest rival, Independent candidate Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, received 21,534 votes, or 43.3%. Beatrice Boakye from the Liberal Party earned 140 votes, making up 0.3% of the votes, while Esther Osei of the Convention People’s Party received 89 votes, representing 0.2% of the total.
In the Ejisu by-election, independent candidates Joseph Agyemang and Atakora Joseph secured 222 votes (0.4%) and 23 votes respectively.
The by-election was held due to the death of Member of Parliament and Deputy Finance Minister, Dr. John Ampontuah Kumah, on March 7, 2024.
The race was highly competitive, particularly between Kwabena Aduomi, a former three-time NPP MP for the constituency, who ran as an independent candidate.
Allegations of vote buying emerged against Kwabena Boateng’s campaign.
In response to bribery allegations, the Electoral Commission dismissed two temporary staff members after a viral video showed them allegedly accepting bribes during the Ejisu by-election.
