The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) is set to hold its parliamentary primary in the Ejisu Constituency today, Saturday, April 13, 2024. This follows the unfortunate passing of the late MP John Kumah on March 7, 2024.
Nine aspirants have been cleared by the party’s vetting committee to contest the primary, after picking up nomination forms earlier this month when the party opened the process on April 2.
The primary comes as the Electoral Commission (EC) has scheduled the by-election to fill the Ejisu parliamentary seat for April 30, 2024.
The 45-year-old Kumah had represented the constituency since 2016 before his untimely death, leaving behind a wife and six children.
So far, no other political party aside from the NPP has expressed interest in participating in the by-election. The main opposition National Democratic Congress has stated that it is still considering whether to field a candidate.
With the NPP primary happening today, the party’s parliamentary candidate for the by-election will be determined, setting the stage for the crucial vote on April 30.
Residents of Ejisu will be closely watching the developments as they prepare to select their next member of parliament.
