A series of incidents of the Bantama Constituency in the Ashanti Region has compelled the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP), Daniel Okyem Aboagye who is vying to represent the party in the 2020 general elections to threaten a law suit.

According to sources, the MP believes some underhand and unapproved activities are going on which can potential mar the electoral process in the constituency.

Reporting from the constituency, Happy 98.9 FM’s correspondent, Jimmy Cliffe indicated that there had been complaints and misunderstandings over the eligibility of some delegates.

Jimmy Cliffe stated, “There have been some misunderstandings in the constituency, especially over the proxy list. The supporters of the incumbent claim they were not aware of a said proxy list and are registering their displeasure”

He furthered that not long after, another scuffle erupted at the cultural center polling station in Bantama where supporters of the incumbent once again questioned the eligibility of the constituency treasurer who is said to be working for the Foreign Affairs Ministry. “The incumbent, Okyem Aboagye does not understand why the constituency treasurer has to vote saying it is against the party’s regulations.”

Commenting on the incident, the Deputy Organizer for constituency said, “They claim the treasure now works at the foreign Affairs ministry and as such cannot vote. But the thing is he already has his name in the register and was allowed to vote by the election official who told the protestors calmly that he can’t do anything about the situation.”
The report indicated that the incumbent who was at the venue raised hell and promised to take the issue to court for the right thing to be done.

The Bantama constituency, also known as the Florida for the New Patriotic Party is being keenly contested by the incumbent, Daniel Okyem Aboagye and deputy chief of staff for the president of Ghana, Francis Asenso-Boakye.
