Kennedy Agyapong, Member of Parliament for Assin Central and an aspiring presidential candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has declared that Ghanaians are yearning for a leader who brings a fresh perspective to governance and addresses the country’s pressing issues.
Ken Agyapong made these remarks in a candid interview on the day of the NPP’s flagbearer selection process.
A confident and determined Ken Agyapong expressed his belief in his candidacy as he said, “I’m beating Mahama hands down and there’s no doubt about that.”
The seasoned politician emphasized that what Ghanaians desire in their next leader is someone who is both bold and honest. He argued that the current state of the country reflects a growing disillusionment with traditional politicians, including lawyers, soldiers, and economists.
Ken Agyapong proposed that his background as a successful businessman sets him apart and positions him as the change that Ghana needs. “The situation we’re in now is because we’ve tried politicians who are lawyers, soldiers, economists and still Ghanaians feel it’s not enough because of the way things are going and Ken Agyapong is a businessman let’s give him a chance and see what businessman can also do. These are advantages, my boldness, truthfulness and business. I stand tall when you bring any NDC contestant. These three things will let me win,” he added.
These remarks come as the NPP begins the voting process to select its flagbearer for the 2024 General Elections. The competition is expected to be intense, with Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Kennedy Agyapong as the leading contenders. Also competing for the party’s flagbearership slot are former Minister for Agriculture, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, and former Mampong MP, Francis Addai-Nimoh.
