The leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has called on the Ghana Police Service to commence investigations into the deaths of individuals during unrest in Obuasi on Sunday, January 19, 2024.

NPP’s Director of Communications, Richard Ahiagbah, stated during a press engagement that the violence leading to the deaths was incited by grassroots members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Mr. Ahiagbah emphasized the need for a thorough investigation by the Ghana Police Service to identify and prosecute those involved in the bloodshed over the weekend.

He also urged the police to maintain integrity by avoiding any behind-the-scenes dealings. “We call on the police to be firm in their stance and avoid any backdoor meetings with the NDC to make this case a foolish case. This is a matter of human life; we cannot take it for granted.”
