Legendary Ghanaian gospel minstrel, Evangelist Amy Newman has indicated that not every Ghanaian gospel artiste can give off their best when recording songs in the English language.
She was responding to a recent request made by Nigerian gospel minister, Pst. Nathaniel Bassey to Ghanaian gospel artistes to record more songs in English.
However, the ‘Siesie Me’ hitmaker on Y102.5FM’s Sunday special, First Service, said, “Not everyone has God’s calling to sing in English”
She added that some gospels artistes in a bid to widen their audience, sing in the said dialect, but end up presenting a bad rendition. “Some artistes sing in English and it’s not enjoyable.” she hinted.
She disclosed that she was in full support of the direction given by the Nigerian gospel singer, Pst. Nathaniel Bassey’s as an obvious way of gaining a larger fan base and global recognition. ‘He didn’t say anything bad. I’ve taken a cue from what he said.’
On Sunday, December 3, 2023 Nigerian minister and songwriter, Pst. Nathaniel Bassey, during his ministration at Jesus Encounters Concert held at the Accra Sports Stadium, declared that Ghana is an anointed nation which must be heard worldwide. Hence, the need for more Ghanaian songs to be written in the English language.
