The Acting Clerk to Parliament, Ebenezer Djietro, has revealed that no representative from the Ablekuma North constituency will be sworn in or allowed to participate in parliamentary proceedings due to the absence of a writ of election from the Electoral Commission (EC) for the constituency.

Presiding over the midnight sitting for the inauguration of the newly elected Members of Parliament (MPs) for the 9th Parliament, Djietro highlighted unresolved electoral issues concerning both the Akwatia and Ablekuma North constituencies.

He informed the House that the absence of the required writ of election from the EC prevents any representative from Akwatia from taking part in the first sitting of the 9th Parliament, including the election of the Speaker.

The lack of the election writ he said also affects the roll call and verification processes, making it impossible to confirm a representative’s eligibility to engage in parliamentary proceedings for the affected constituencies.

“Two issues relating to two constituencies are outstanding and the constituencies are Ablekuma North and Akwatia.

“The case of Ablekuma North is known to all of us and we don’t have writ of elections from the EC in respect of Ablekuma North and therefore it is impossible to proceed with any matter relating to Ablekuma North in terms of roll call and in terms of the eligibility of a member for that constituency to participate in the election of the Speaker,” he stated.
