No Facts to Prosecute NDC members- Lawyer Effah Dartey

Former Member of Parliament (MP) for Berekum constituency, Captain (rtd) Nkrabea Effah Dartey, is of the view that to prosecute anybody accused of corruption, the perception of corruption must be grounded in facts.

‘’ You hear people saying the NDC officials were corrupt but so far, nobody has been prosecuted because there are no facts that will convince a judge of such corruption’’ he said.

Speaking on Happy FM’s ‘Epa Hoa Daben’ political show, Captain Effah Dartey made reference to the ongoing court case involving Dr Steven Opuni, the former Chief Executive of COCOBOD, who is facing over 27 charges over some alleged corrupt practices during his term of office.

‘’In Opuni’s case, there was a dossier that made it easier for him to be prosecuted,’’ he explained.

He also disagreed with the assertion that Ghana is now practicing ‘personality rule’ instead of the rule of law. ‘’The laws of Ghana are not perfect because human beings are in charge of interpreting and enforcing these laws. But that cannot amount to ‘personality rule’. There are apparent challenges but it has not gotten there,’’ he stated.

It could be recalled that Martin Alamisi Burnes Kaiser Amidu was sworn in as Ghana’s first Special Prosecutor in 2018 but he is yet to handle his first case.
