The National Security Coordinator, DCOP Osman Abdul Razak, has expressed concerns numerous cases of violence relating to chieftaincy and lands disputes in the country, cautioning individuals on the need to find the appropriate channels to resolve some of these challenges.
Speaking during a visit to Nkwanta in the Oti region on Tuesday January 21, 2025 to assess the conflict as well as engage with the traditional leaders, DCOP Abdul Razak called on security agencies to collaborate and work together to be able to address these challenges.
“I want to say that, just in these couple of weeks chieftaincy and land issues have given us a lot of troubles and the security on an individual basis would not be able to control it. And, so for this particular era we are looking for some specialised form of cooperation between the various security agencies. We must work and not discriminate on every aspect of our work, because if we want to do that, we will not be able to go anywhere”.
DCOP Abdul Razak has encouraged security agencies to be proactive in the discharge of their duties, while cautioning to deal with any group of persons that try to disturb the peace in a country.
“I am looking more to see proactiveness in the way in which we fight this sort of dispute. We must deal with ruthlessly”.
He added that, “I want to sound a caution, if there are chieftaincy disputes, they need to take the correct channels to resolve them and we will support peaceful, but if there is a recourse to violence, that seems to harm the individual or the ordinary citizen we will not sit aloof. And, as a coordinator, believe me I will be in the trenches with you” he assured.
