Nigeria is set to collaborate with India in a bid to transition to a more sustainable energy system and address its long-standing electricity challenges.
This partnership aligns with Nigeria’s 2022 Energy Transition Plan, which outlines the nation’s goal of achieving a net-zero emissions energy system by 2060.
Governor of Taraba State, Agbu Kefas, emphasized the importance of this collaboration and transition to green energy during the India Energy Week, held on Tuesday. “The world is moving towards green energy, and we also have to move along. But the challenge we face is securing the funding needed to meet this goal,” Kefas stated.
India, a leader in renewable energy initiatives, plans to connect a record 35 gigawatts of solar and wind energy capacity to its grid by March 2025.
This collaboration is expected to help Nigeria overcome its energy crisis and reduce frequent blackouts caused by an ageing power grid, under-investment, and vandalism.
Nigeria has also called on the United States to provide financial support to accelerate its energy transition, signaling its commitment to ending its electricity ordeal once and for all.
