Member of Parliament for Sefwi Bodi Constituency, Samson Ahi, has assured cocoa farmers that the next NDC government will restore the cocoa sector back to its golden days.

According to him, the Akuffo- Addo Bawumia government is taking advantage of cocoa farmers by paying them small amounts of money as producer price compared to the huge world market price

Mr. Ahi said this at Elluokrom in the Bia West Constituency during the Western North Regional campaign tour of the Vice Presidential Candidate of the NDC, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, on Wednesday October 2, 2024.

“The former Mahama administration paid cocoa farmers 70 per cent of the world market price as producer price, in addition to the free fertiliser, cocoa roads and other incentives”, he added.

Mr. Ahi promised that the next NDC government would pay cocoa farmers a fair and reasonable producer price, adding the next Mahama administration would bring back the free fertiliser programme and the supply of improved seedlings, among others, to help cocoa farmers increase their yield. “ the next NDC government would also introduce a pension scheme for all cocoa farmers to support them when they reach the retirement age.”

He urged the electorate to vote for NDC presidential candidate, Mr. John Dramani Mahama, in the upcoming December 7 general elections to enable him revive the cocoa sector and save the Ghana Cocoa Board from eventual collapse.
