Neglected healthcare facility: Gyampokrom residents call for completion

Residents of Gyampokrom in the Upper Denkyira East Municipality of the Central region are appealing to the Ministry of Health and President Nana Addo to complete the abandoned Community-Based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) Compound in the area.

The residents expressed their frustration, stating that the project was initiated by the previous NDC government led by former president John Dramani Mahama in 2015-2016 but was left unfinished. They lamented that since the change in government, the project has been neglected, allowing weeds, lizards, and other animals to take over, with the roofing and ceiling now deteriorating.

The residents emphasized that the CHPS Compound was intended to provide essential healthcare services to underserved areas, but its abandonment has denied them access to these critical services.

The Assembly Member for the area, Abubakar Sadique expressed dismay at the situation, pointing out that residents are now forced to travel to Denkyira Kyekyewere to access healthcare services, despite having a CHPS compound in their own community that has been left to deteriorate.

He appealed to the government to intervene, renovate, and commission the abandoned CHPS compound, which would significantly improve healthcare delivery in the area. Sadique’s plea emphasizes the need for the government to address this critical healthcare infrastructure gap and ensure that the community has access to quality healthcare services.
