NDC claims vindication as EC reverses decision to print ballot papers without certified voters register

The Director of Elections for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Omane Boamah, has questioned whether the missing BVD kits were part of a broader criminal enterprise, given that the BVR laptops were stolen under CCTV surveillance.

He raised concern about the theft of Biometric Verification Devices (BVD) belonging to the Electoral Commission (EC).

Speaking during a meeting with Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and other stakeholders, he expressed suspicion about the timing of the theft, which happened under CCTV surveillance.

He suggested that it might be connected to the EC’s refusal to allow an independent forensic audit of the voters register.

Dr. Boamah described the incident as a product of “deliberate layered irresponsibility,” pointing out that the security at the EC involves multiple layers that are not immediately visible to the public. The EC has already assured the general public that a stolen BVD cannot jeopardize the integrity of the 2024 Elections.
