The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Volta Region has encouraged affected victims of the flood disaster caused by spillages from the opening of the floodgates of Akosombo and Kpong Dams in September 2023 to replace their missing voter ID cards.
According to them, they recognize the devastating impact this act has had on lives, properties, and livelihoods across the region.
In light of this, they have urged all flood victims who have lost their voter ID cards to actively partake in the processes of having them replaced.
The Electoral Commission (EC) has assured that the replacements will be done free of charge for all flood victims.
In a press release they stated that this initiative is crucial to ensure that all eligible voters retain their ability to participate in the December 7 and future electoral processes without hindrance.
“We encourage all affected individuals to visit the nearest EC Offices in their respective districts from 30th May to 14th June 2024 to have their lost voter ID cards replaced. This also applies to those who may want to transfer their votes or apply to vote by proxy.
The NDC is committed to supporting this process and will provide any necessary assistance to facilitate a smooth and efficient replacement procedure.
Every citizen’s right to vote is fundamental and inalienable, and we stand with them to ensure that this right is preserved despite the challenges posed by the unfortunate flood disaster.
The NDC remains dedicated to advocating for and assisting the people of the Volta Region in every possible way to join in the pursuit of democratically ousting the current clueless, reckless and super-incompetent Nana Addo-Bawumia led NPP government” parts of the release read.
