Member of Parliament for Sekondi, Andrew Egyapa Mercer has attributed his party’s defeat in the constituency to what he described as the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) effective propaganda campaign, which resonated strongly with voters.
Mercer expressed regret that the NDC successfully advanced a narrative portraying 28 years of stagnation under New Patriotic Party (NPP) MPs in Sekondi, undermining the NPP’s achievements.
He explained that during the periods when Sekondi was represented by an NPP MP, the presidency was often held by the NDC, making it difficult for MPs to implement significant projects.
Although the NPP worked to counter this narrative, Mercer acknowledged that reversing the perception proved challenging. He highlighted ongoing initiatives, such as the redevelopment of the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital and road construction projects, as evidence of the NPP’s commitment to development.
However, these accomplishments, he noted, were overshadowed by the NDC’s effective messaging.
