The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has encouraged the populace to disregard statements from members of the opposition, National Democratic Congress (NDC) saying, it was a futile attempt by the opposition to discredit the EC.

In an interview on the Happy Morning Show with Samuel Eshun on Happy 98.9 FM, the Acting Director of Public Affairs, Mrs Silvia Annoh said, “We’ve not received any PPEs from the government. The EC has not been provided with any equipment by the gov’t”.
According to her, the claim and entire press conference organized by the minority leader was an attack and insult on the integrity of the EC. “Such statements would make people see the EC as unconcerned about the welfare of Ghanaians and that is not so”.

Madam Sylvia opined that the minority leader sounded like the EC had been provided with PPEs from the government and was insistent on proceeding to compile the new voters’ register “disregarding all advice” given them.
The Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu. registered the displeasure of the NDC on the management of the coronavirus by the EC as far as the compilation of new voters’ register is concerned.

But the EC in a statement signed by its Acting Director of Public Affairs, Sylvia Annoh, expressed grave concern about the comments made by the Minority Leader during a press conference held on May 7, 2020.
The Commission denied claims by the Minority that it had received personal protective equipment.

It says in the statement that “the Commission has not stated anywhere that it has received personal protective equipment from Government as stated by the Minority Leader during the press conference.”
