The Deputy Director of Research for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Bono Region, Abdul Razak Chachas, has praised President John Dramani Mahama for his generosity towards the Muslim community.
In an interview with Bismarck Brown on Happy 98.9FM’s Epa Hoa Daben show, Mr. Chachas commended Mr. Mahama for his remarkable support of Muslims in the country, noting that although the President is not a Muslim, his actions have been truly impressive.
He highlighted one of the key initiatives benefiting Muslims, the reduction of the Hajj fee by GHC 13,000, bringing it down from approximately GHC 75,000 under the previous government to about GHC 62,000.
Mr. Chachas pointed out that this is particularly significant, considering Mr. Mahama is not a Muslim himself.
He also recognized the President for adding an additional holiday to the existing Eid ul-Fitr celebration, a gesture that further demonstrates his care and commitment to the Muslim community.
He emphasized that while Ghana had a Muslim Vice President in the past, that administration did not make such strides for the Muslim population. In contrast, President Mahama, despite not being Muslim, has done more for the community.
Mr. Chachas argued that this distinction highlights the difference in how the NDC and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) approach their support for the Muslim community.
