The National Democratic Congress’s demonstration in the Efutu Constituency nearly turned chaotic as members of the New Patriotic Party clashed with them.
The atmosphere was calm until members of the New Patriotic Party who were also staging a walk met with NDC members who had gathered at the Winnesec junction.
Even though the police team that was already on grounds managed to handle the situation, the arrival of the Winneba Divisional Commander, ACP Jeffrey Darko, who was following the NPP walk got the situation escalated as members of the NDC accused him of taking sides.
There were some pockets of confusion between members of the two parties and at a point between them and the police. The NDC’s parliamentary candidate, James Kofi Annan who addressed the media questioned why the police granted permit for the NPP’s walk even though they had already agreed to the NDC’s demonstration. He urged his supporters to stand with the NDC and vote massively in the upcoming 2024 general elections despite intimidation from the NPP.
