NCA boss presence causes stir at IPAC meeting

The presence of the Director-General (D-G) of National Communications Authority (NCA), Joe Anokye at the Electoral Commission’s Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting held last week sent members of the main opposition National Democratic Congress murmuring.

The NDC elements at the meeting were unhappy about the presence of the Director-General of NCA.

But, the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) says the D-G of the NCA was at the meeting on the invitation of the party.

The General Secretary of the party, John Boadu said the party took the decision for Mr Joe Anokye to be part of the NPP’s team stem from a letter the party received from the EC that it’s intent to roll out a new biometric register for the 2020 elections.

According to the EC’s letter,  parties should bring people well versed in the biometric data analysis hence the NPP’s choice of Joe Anokye.

So Mr Anokye was at the said meeting as a representative of the NPP Mr Boadu explained.

According to Mr Baodu, Mr Anokye was at the IPAC meeting at the instance of the NPP.

Speaking on Accra-based Okay FM Mr. John Boadu said the NDC’s behaviour at the said meeting was as if they did not read the letter EC sent inviting the parties to the IPAC meeting.

He said NDC instead of bringing expertise to meeting brought their usual team made up of the usual Johnson Asiedu-Nketia, General Secretary, Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah, Director of Elections and Deputy General Secretary Peter Boamah Otokunor.

”These were the members the NDC presented at the meeting to discuss a new biometric register for the 2020 elections he said.

Everybody knows that Mr Anokye has expertise in data analysis and he is also a party member so we presented him as our representative he said.
