Legal advice to Berekum Arsenal, Lawyer Ntow Fianko, has stated the Normalization Committee (NC) of the Ghana Football Association has no right to punish the team if they refuse to honor their game with Kumasi Asante Kotoko.
Berekum Arsenals alleged that Asante Kotoko was being favored in the ongoing normalization special competition as they have played two games at home. Berekum Arsenals is proposing that the quarter-final game be moved to a neutral venue and if the normalization committee refuse to meet their demand, they will redraw from the competition and there is no law that can be used against them.
According to the club, Bechem, Nsoatre or Dormaa are venues to be considered for the game and if the Normalization Committee does not choose one of the venues, they will pull out of the competition.
In an exclusive interview on Happy FM’s ‘Wamputu Sports’, Ntow Fianko said, “if we don’t honor the match there is no law against us.”
“If the Berekum Arsenals management decides not to honor the match because they didn’t treat us well, there’s no laws against us”.
“In the GFA rules and regulations under the article 4 of the GFA regulations 1-14 under GFA status article 18, any club that will be suspended must be decided by Congress and this NC competition rules are not under GFA rules So they can’t expel Berekum Arsenals from the competition if we don’t honor it. Even Techiman City didn’t honor some of their matches and nothing has happened to them. This is not GFA approved that can invoke article 18 or article 21 to suspend or expel Berekum Arsenals for not playing,” he said.
On the other hand, Asante Kotoko has been silent on the issue as they also battle their own case against the Normalization Committee on the same matter against Hearts of Oak in the semi-finals of the Special Competition
