This year’s theme, “20 years of celebrating giving: thank you blood donors!” highlights the importance of blood donation in saving lives. In an interview on the Happy Morning Show, with Kwadwo Sefah Danquah ,David Dodzi Ahiadzro, Head of Blood Donor Recruitment at National Blood Service, emphasized the need for frequent blood donations to stock up the National Blood Bank across the country. “We need more people to come forward and donate blood voluntarily at various health facilities,” he stressed. Not every individual is eligible to donate blood for safe blood collection. “To qualify for the procedure , individuals must be at least 17 years old and above , weigh 50kg or more, and be in good health. Donors must also undergo pre-donation medical screening and receive education on the donation process and post-donation care.”The National Blood Service , a member of the World Health Organization (WHO), aims to make blood easily accessible to those in dire need. By increasing voluntary blood donations, the National blood service will save countless lives and improve healthcare outcomes across Ghana.
