The running mate to the NPP Presidential Candidate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has issued an apology for his remarks made on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, during his unveiling in Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional capital.
At the event, Dr. Prempeh, also known as Napo, asserted that the achievements of outgoing President Nana Akufo-Addo surpasses even those of Ghana’s first president, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. This statement sparked a nationwide reaction, with some Ghanaians accusing him of attempting to rewrite history.
In a letter dated July 12, 2024, Dr. Prempeh clarified that his statement reflected his personal opinion on President Akufo-Addo’s impact compared to other presidents of Ghana.
He expressed regret if his words were construed as disrespectful to former President Dr. Kwame Nkrumah or any other former heads of state, including his mentor, Mr. John Agyekum Kuffour.
“I note the concerns raised after my statement, I apologise sincerely and regret any discomfort caused,” part of the statement read.
