Nana Addo, not the right person to address the Bar on corruption - Lawyer

Private legal practitioner, Abraham Amaliba, has negated President Akufo-Addo addressing the Ghana Bar Association conference in Takoradi, Western Region on Monday, 9th September 20119.

According to him, Nana Addo is not the right person to outline major strides in the fight against corruption because his government has been described as the most corrupt in the history of Ghana.

The President in 2016 campaigned on a platform of ensuring a national exercise to curb corruption is bolstered especially with his personal record of incorruptibility and commitment to strengthening institutions responsible for aiding the anti-corruption fight.

Speaking on Happy FM’s Epa Hoa Daben Show with Kwame Afrifa-Mensah, Amaliba said: “Nana Addo is not the right person to Address the Bar on the issues of corruption especially when his government is known as the most corrupt in the history of Ghana.”

The President yesterday asserted that, “It is not my job to clear or convict any person accused of wrongdoing, or of engaging in acts of corruption. My job is to act on allegations of corruption by referring to the issue or issues to the proper investigative agencies for the relevant enquiry and necessary action. That is exactly what has been done since I assumed the mantle of leadership on 7th January 2017. If an appointee is cleared of any wrongdoing, the evidence adduced and recommendations made by these agencies, after the investigations are concluded, are what clear the accused persons, not myself. None of these agencies has ever indicated any pressure from the Executive over their investigations.”

According to Amaliba, “The president did not go there to address how to fight corruption but rather to defend himself.”
