President Nana Akufo-Addo has distanced himself from the contractual issues of Black Stars coach Kwesi Appiah and the Ghana Football Association.
Kwesi Appiah’s contract is set to expire at the end of the month and there are talks ongoing among the sporting public if he should remain head coach of the Black Stars or vacate his post.
Ghana’s disappointing exit from the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt saw a lot of fans calling for the sack of James Kwesi Appiah as they claimed the Stars performances at the tournament were not inspiring.
Ghana won just a game against Equatorial Guinea in the group stage and lost on penalties to Tunisia in the Round of 16 to exit the competition.
Nana Addo in response to a question on whether the coach’s contract be renewed or not at the President’s Meet the Press program on Friday said, “If I say yes it’s like I am putting pressure on the GFA to renew his contract and if I say no then I know for sure they will not be able to do it”, he told reporters at the meeting.
