President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo was the special guest speaker at the 2019 speech and prize giving day of Adisadel College (ADISCO) in Cape Coast and he chose the occasion to take a lighthearted dig at the school that produced the infamous Nana Appiah Mensah (NAM1).

The March 9, 2019 event was part of the celebration of 109 years since the all-boyschool was founded by Anglican missionaries in Cape Coast.

In his speech, President Akufo-Addo noted with glee the contributions of ADISCO in producing some of Ghana’s eminent members of society.

These, President Akufo-Addo said included business mogul Sam Jonah, politician Alan Kyeremanten and former chief justice George Kinsgley Acquah.

President Akufo-Addo also chipped in the school’s production of entertainers and it was at that point that his reference to Nana Appiah Mensah of Menzgold fame was received with a loud mix of funny jeers and cheer

Mensah, or NAM 1 as he is popularly known, is the beleagured founder of the collapsed gold investment firm, Menzgold.

Currently, the businessman is said to be in the United Arab Emirates and has been held on fraud charges.

Back home in Ghana, his company is accused of having traded illegally in gold collectibles and defrauded thousands in the process.

Police are also looking to press charges against him in Ghana.

Tens of thousands of aggrieved customers of Menzgold have at various points in the last six months, taken to the streets in protest.

Others have also accused government of being complicit in the matter. R

For a man who seemed like he was going places on the right path, NAM 1’s tragic fall is a matter ADISCO will not be eager to be associated with.
