Ghanaian highlife musician, Ofori Amponsah has contended that the “My Level” song by Shatta Wale did not deserve to win the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) Highlife music of the year.
He was speaking in an interview with Happy FM’s DJ Advicer on the “Ayekoo After Drive” show.
“I do not believe ‘My Level’ by Shatta Wale is highlife music. Even though it has elements of highlife in it, I would choose Kwame Eugene’s song as highlife over ‘My Level’ any day”, he said.
He added that it was most likely that the organizers of the VGMA awards chose Shatta Wale’s music as highlife for business.
Shatta Wale’s popular song was nominated for the category of highlife song of the year at the VGMA’s awards event earlier this year and eventually emerged the winner in the category. This award attracted a lot of public cynicism as many did not consider the song as a highlife song.
