Asante Kotoko management member, Nana Kwame Dankwa has confirmed to Happy Sports that Telecommunications giants MTN have suspended their sponsorship deal with the club.
According to reports, there is a clause in the contract signed between the two parties which enables MTN to suspend its financial obligation when there is a force majeure- in this case, the COVID-19 pandemic.
Reports went rife on the suspension of the sponsorship deal from MTN in the local media due to the recent managerial crisis facing the club.
However, Nana Kwame Dankwah in an interview on Happy 98.9fm indicated that the suspension of the sponsorship deal was as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Yes its true, MTN has suspended their sponsorship deal and the reasons stated in the letter we received is due to the Covid-19″.
Happy Sports understands that the suspension starts this month and Asante Kotoko will loose their Ghc 70,000 monthly sponsorship.
