MP appeals for immediate passage of Affirmative Action Bill

The Member of Parliament for Sefwi-Wiaso, Dr Kwaku Afriyie has appealed to Parliament for the immediate passage of the Affirmative Action bill.

The Bill has already been to Parliament about three times, since 2011 seen various versions but none is yet to be passed by the House.

Dr Afriyie emphasizes the significant role women play in the development of the Ghanaian society.

“Mr. Speaker, women have made a lot of contributions to society, my mother sacrificed more than my father for me to become who I am today”. He elaborated

He urged Parliament to take the necessary steps now and pass the bill into law. He said Ghana will be counted as a progressive nation that champions the course of humanity.

The affirmative action bill which is currently before Parliament if passed into law, will ensure that a significant number of women are in key positions in governance, public life and decision -making spaces that will improve the lives of women the country.

His call came as contribution to a statement made by Minister of Gender, children and Social Protection on the delay in the passage of the Affirmative Action bill.
