Thousands of Ghanaians congregated at the Accra International Conference Center (AICC) to watch the much awaited investigative film on corruption in football and politics in Ghana by ace investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas.
Ghanaians from all walks of life and some international expatriates queued at the AICC. The expectant viewers began queuing at the venue as early as 10 am on Wednesday June 6 and there was also heavily armed security men to ensure sanity.
There was hectic traffic on the streets of Accra leading to the AICC .
Some eminent personalities present were Member of Parliament (MP) for Kumbungu, Ras Mubarak; People’s National Convention (PNC) Chairman, Bernard Mornah; APC Founder, Hassan Ayariga; former Attorney General, Marietta Brew Appiah-Oppong; head of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA), Cudjoe Fianoo; and National Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kofi Adams.
Kwesi Nyantakyi, who is the boss of Ghana football, was captured in the video explaining how sponsorship deals at the GFA are brokered.
Unknown to him, these potential investors were actually private investigators from the Tiger Eye PI agency. They filmed the entire encounter with the FA boss.
Nyantakyi explained that there was finder’s fee for whoever was able to bring sponsors to the table. But before the investors – who he continuously refers to as Sheikhs – could explain how they wanted to go about the deal, the administrator put forward his plans.
Some high profile figures who were named by GFA boss Nyantakyi include Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Deputy Roads Minister, Anthony Karbo, and MP for Assin Central and Anas’ biggest critic over the last few days, Kennedy Agyapong.
In the video, Nyantakyi, in an interaction with the potential investors, quoted several sums of money to be given to those political figures and himself in order to facilitate the deal.
The exposé also linked in political figures, referees and officials of both the GFA and the National Sports Authority.
