Government, has announced Monday, June 17, 2024, as a public holiday.
This public holiday is in observance of Eid-Ul-Adha, which is on Sunday, June 16, 2024.
The Minister of the Interior, Henry Quartey, announced in a statement that the decision was made in accordance with the provisions of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act (Act 601).
Eid-Ul-Adha, a prominent Islamic holiday, is formally recognized as a public holiday in Ghana. As this year’s celebration falls on a Sunday, the government has exercised its executive authority to declare the subsequent Monday a public holiday, providing an additional day of observance and rest for the populace, as stipulated by the Executive Instrument (E.I).
The Minister stressed that Monday, June 17, be universally observed as a holiday nationwide, affording all Ghanaians the opportunity to actively participate in the festivities, cultural events, and religious practices that commemorate this important Islamic holiday.
