The Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources is set to promote and share information on the provision of toilet facilities.
This is part of its celebration of the World Toilet Day annually observed on the 19th of November, 2019. The Ministry’s observance of this day is tied with the Global theme, “leaving no one behind”.
This year’s observance in Ghana will feature a brief ceremony to be held at the La Dadekotopon Community where the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources will interact with community members on pertinent issues on toilet facilities in homes.
According to a 2017 report by the Greater Accra Metropolitan Area(GAMA) Sanitation and Water Project, most schools in the La Dadekotopon municipal district lack toilet facilities that has resulted in pupils and teachers leaving the school to practice open defecation or using public toilets.
World Toilet Day (WTD) is an annual global event organized by UN Water to raise awareness of the crucial role that sanitation plays in reducing disease and creating healthier communities. WTD falls every year on November 19. The WTD 2019 theme, “Leaving No One Behind,” emphasizes the importance of expanding sanitation access to the more than 4.2 billion people living without safely managed sanitation options.
