The Ministry of Health as part of measures put in place to ensure the well-being of the Ghanaian people, has launched a combative policy to ensure the regulation and the strong check regarding the irrational use of antibiotics in Ghana.

Speaking at a press briefing the Minister Of Health, Kwaku Agyeman-Manu noted that abuse of antibiotics in Ghana has heightened and has become a national phenomenon.

“The ministry is concerned about the growing phenomenon of antibiotics used in Ghana.”

The minister stated that the Anti-Microbial Use and Resistance Policy will ensure that all care seekers, medicine prescribers, pharmacies and chemical shops are educated. The Minister added that the policy will employ regulatory enforcement and security services to apprehend individuals found culpable of this nationwide threat.

According to him, the Anti-Microbial Use and Resistance Policy will present Ghana with a big acclaim on the global landscape and is set for imminent implementation.

This move serves as a response to a call made by the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana, on the high abuse of antibiotics recorded in 2022.
