The Ministry of Education has issued a statement clarifying that contrary to media reports, there are no plans to introduce new uniforms or repaint existing public basic schools in the country.
The clarification comes after the Minister for Education’s previous remarks were misconstrued as indicating a nationwide change of uniforms and repainting exercises for all public schools.
According to the Ministry’s statement, the Minister’s original comments were specifically in reference to the selection of brighter and more vibrant colour schemes for the newly constructed 21st Century Model Junior High School buildings.
“The aim is to lighten and enhance the appearance and physical outlook of the new schools,” the statement read, adding that it was “never a case of repainting existing schools or altering them in any way.”
The Ministry further explained that while the new model schools may have the option of choosing new colors for their uniforms, this does not imply a blanket change of uniforms across all public basic schools nationwide.
