Ghana receives herbal cure for COVID-19 from Madagascar

The President of the Ghana Association of Medical Herbalists, Dr. Anthony Mensah has asserted that the purported COVID-19 cure, COVID-Organics from Madagascar is not a cure for the pandemic.

According to him, the drug has not gone through any processes to be approved as a cure to COVID-19.

He made this comment in an interview on Happy 98.9 FM’s Happy Morning Show with Samuel Eshun. He said, “from my perspective, I will not call Madagascar’s drug a cure for COVID-19.”

Dr. Anthony motioned that for any drug to be determined as a cure to any sickness, it has to go through rigorous clinical trials but that cannot be said for the COVID-Organics.
“It has to be fed to patients and cure them first before we make that assertion. But it has not cured anyone to my knowledge. The drug has not gone through clinical testing.”

He recalled that the World Health Organization (WHO) has spoken against the drug on numerous occassions. “I am not saying what WHO said is right or wrong” but that should have advised our decision.

As COVID-19 spreads across Africa and leaders put their countries on lockdown, Madagascan President Andry Rajoelina last month launched a herbal remedy which he claimed could prevent and cure the disease.

Some African countries are ordering consignments of Madagascar’s purported cure for COVID-19.

The World Health Organization is yet to endorse the COVID- Organics herbal remedy and has cautioned against its use. Together with the African Union, W-H-O have called for its clinical trials.
