The Electoral Commission has increased media accreditation at constituency and collation centres to 4,500 ahead December 7 Election.
Addressing the media on November 29, 2024, Jane Mensah, the chairperson of Electoral Commission announced that 4,500 accreditation cards would be issued to the Ghana Journalists’ Association (GJA) and Independent Broadcasters Association (GIBA) leadership on Sunday December 1, 2024.
She added that, the 4,500 accreditation cards would be allocated and distributed by the Ghana Journalists’ Association and Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association without the Electoral Commission’s involvement.
She also said the Electoral Commission cannot conduct the election without the involvement of the media and for that matter the Commission is committed to working with the media before, during and after the December 7 election.
The Electoral Commission earlier indicated that 3,308 media personnel will be accredited to cover the collation of results at the constituency and regional collation centres.
The decision of the commission received a lot of criticism from stakeholders and political parties calling on them to rescind their decision.
However, the Commission agreed to Meet GJA and GIBA over the limited number of accreditation to the media houses at constituency and regional collation centres.
After the meeting, the Electoral Commission has added 1,192 to the earlier 3,308 making 4,500.
