Medeama SC’s Communications Director, Patrick Akoto has shed light on the pivotal return of their talismanic forward Jonathan Sowah, describing it as a significant boost for the team ahead of their CAF Champions League encounter with Young Africans.
The Ghanaian champions, fresh from a stunning comeback victory against CR Belouizdad, are gearing up to face Yanga in the third round of the group stage at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi this Friday.
Despite the absence of Sowah in the previous match due to accumulated yellow cards, Medeama secured a 2-1 triumph.
Akoto in an interview with Happy FM, emphasized the team’s adaptability but acknowledged Sowah’s absence was palpable, especially considering his pivotal role in orchestrating attacking plays.
“Jonathan Sowah’s return is a big boost to our squad. His influence on the field and knack for crucial moments have been sorely missed. We’ve adapted well in his absence, but having him back adds another dimension to our strategy”.
Sowah, with an impressive record of 18 goals in 33 matches since joining last year, has been a linchpin for Medeama. His six goals in 13 games this season, including two in the Champions League, underscore his importance to the team’s success.
The game against Young Africans is on Friday, December 8, 2023, in Kumasi. They will hope to make it two wins out of two at home.
