Senior Pastor of Bethel Baptist Church and marriage counselor, Reverend Sekyi-Yorke has emphasized the need for continuous counselling for couples.

He insists marital counselling should continue even after couples have been joined in Holy matrimony.

According to him, most couples face challenges even in the first week of marriage, “and as we speak people are on the verge of divorce even though they might have gone through counselling.”

Speaking in an interview with Wiston Micheals on Y107.9FM’s Shouts on Y show prior to the commencement of the 2025 HappyFM Valentine Mass Wedding Counselling Session.

Citing his marriage as an example, Rev. Sekyi-Yorke revealed that he has been married for 34 years and recalled how they were able to navigate their way.

” I remember the things that my counselors shared with us and anytime there is a challenge we know how to navigate our way because we underwent counselling” he said.

He mentioned that counselors should focus on being readily available to assist couples when they encounter challenges in their marriage, especially during tough times to help couples navigate difficulties and strengthen their relationships.

He used the opportunity to beseech couples to pay attention to what their counselors offer because, “it prepares you into an institution that people go in and have hiccups along the way.”

Rev. Sekyi-Yorke maintained that counseling should be seen as an ongoing resource, rather than just a pre-marriage requirement, ensuring that couples have the support they need throughout their marital lives.
