A 33 year old preacher, identified as Christopher Kofi Otchere Sorkpa, has been sentenced to five years in prison by an Accra Circuit Court for causing damage to vehicles at Parliament.
During the court proceedings presided over by his Honour, Mr Samuel Bright Acquah, the convict pleaded guilty to five counts and causing unlawful damages.
The court convicted him on his own plea and sentenced him on the charge of conspiracy to three years and five years for causing unlawful damage.
The term is to be served concurrently, meaning he will serve only the highest term of five years.
However, Wisdom Ahli, a 40 year old man was remanded by the court to reappear on January 9, 2025 after being charged together with the convict for conspiracy and for praising the convict during the act.
The Prosecutor explained to the court that on December 18, 2024, the convict and the second accused stormed the Parliament car park.
The convict was with a bag containing earth chisel which he used to cause damage to two Toyota vehicles with registration numbers GW- 1905-21 and GS 5055-17.
Two Toyota Camry saloon cars and one RAV 4 were also vandalized by the convict.
The owners of the vehicles are Kwaku Okere Agyekum, Jessica Mensah, Eugene Boakye Antwi, Gifty Gbah and Sena Atsu.
