Malik Basintale urges Ghana Police Service to act on NPP 'revenge' threats

Deputy National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Malik Basintale, has called on the Ghana Police Service to address what he describes as dangerous threats to peace made by the third National Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Alhaji Masawud Osman.

Basintale on his X page referenced a viral video in which the NPP Vice Chairman allegedly urged NPP youth to prepare for violent actions in response to tensions between the NPP and NDC over discrepancies in the collation of parliamentary election results. In the video, Alhaji Masawud Osman said, “I have said as the third National Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, that I will not stand idle for my people to be intimidated across these regions. We are taking revenge from tomorrow to Friday. We are all coming out. If anyone takes a gun, you too go home, and if you have a gun, bring it.”

Basintale in the post indicated that the NPP Vice Chairman’s comments are fueling unrest following the 2024 elections. He warned that the NDC will take matters into its own hands if the police fail to act. “He is the one causing chaos and mayhem with his boys everywhere now. In 24 hours, if nothing is done about him, we shall do something about him. Best regards. Cc: IGP Dampare,” Basintale stated.
