Majority caucus leaders urge NPP to retain parliamentary leadership amid election defeat

The leadership of Parliamentary Committees within the majority caucus is urging the National Council of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to retain the current leaders of the caucus in the 9th Parliament.

This call comes in the aftermath of the NPP’s significant defeat in the 2024 General Elections, which will result in the party becoming the minority in Parliament.

At a press briefing in Accra on Friday, December 27, Kwabena Amankwa Asiamah, Chairman of the Education Committee and MP for Fanteakwa North, explained that the current leadership’s extensive experience in parliamentary proceedings makes them well-suited to guide the caucus during this challenging period. He noted that the diminished numbers on the NPP’s side in Parliament will require experienced leadership to effectively counter the increased strength of the opposition.

He emphasized that maintaining the current leadership would benefit not only the party and its parliamentary caucus but also Ghana’s democratic process. He noted that the current leaders’ familiarity with the workings of both the previous government and Parliament places them in a strong position to lead the NPP in future political and legislative efforts.
