Majority can never bribe us to support 2022 Budget – NDC

Member of Parliament for the Bia East constituency, Richard Acheampong has confidently expressed that the minority in parliament can never be enticed with money to vote in favour of the 2022 Budget Statement in parliament.

He added that it will be disgraceful on the part of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to make such a move as no amount of money can buy the integrity of the NDC MPs.

He was speaking in an interview with Happy FM’s Don Prah on the ‘Epa Hoa Daben’ show when he stated: “It will be very annoying to bribe us with money to accept the 2022 Budget. They think we are stooges but it is about integrity and service to the people and so their move will not yield results. You can give an MP 200,000 Ghana Cedis and in less than 2 weeks that money will be finished. So, you cannot bribe the MPs with money.”

The parliament of Ghana is currently debating on the 2022 Budget Statement presented by the Finance Minister.

After the reading of the budget, the minority vowed to “kill” the budget as they believe that it will only worsen the plight of Ghanaians.

Earlier, the majority in parliament delayed the process for the possible approval of the proposed budget as it seemed all their members were not present for the debate.

Among the many things included in the budget, the Finance Minister made known that government is introducing a 1.75% e-levy on all electronic transactions including Mobile Money, brank transactions and remittances.

The Minister said this was a strategy to widen the tax net and reduce the burden on the few Ghanaians paying their taxes.
