Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has vowed to ramp up recruitment of public security personnel to support the implementation of a 24-hour economy.
However, the Minority has expressed concerns over the recruitment process, alleging secrecy and bias towards New Patriotic Party (NPP) loyalists. They claim that NPP members, including parliamentary candidates, are unfairly influencing the recruitment of their supporters into the security services, sparking accusations of political favoritism.
During his ‘Building Ghana Tour’ stop at the Beneba Market Square in Zebilla, Upper East Region, former President John Mahama assured the crowd that recruitment opportunities will be equitably distributed across all regions, promoting fairness and inclusivity in the process.
He highlighted that, to support the implementation of a 24-hour economy, security and safety must be prioritized. With a current police-to-population ratio of approximately 30,000 officers to 30 million people, it’s clear that Ghana needs to significantly increase the number of police, security, and military personnel. This presents a tremendous opportunity for many of the young individuals to join the security services. Unlike the NPP’s secretive recruitment practices, the NDC will conduct open and transparent recruitment processes, region by region, ensuring that everyone has an equal chance to be recruited into the security services.
