The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has pledged to establish a cocoa processing facility in Kukuom, in the Asunafo South District of the Ahafo Region.
During a campaign tour in the region, Mr. Mahama reaffirmed his dedication to addressing youth unemployment and promoting regional development throughout Ghana.
His industrialisation strategy, which includes the creation of the cocoa processing facility, is part of a wider economic transformation plan centred on his 24-hour economy policy.
The 24-hour economy policy he said aims to leverage Ghana’s growing population by ensuring that sectors such as manufacturing, processing, logistics, and services function throughout the day and night.
He stressed that this would create additional shifts and job openings for the country’s expanding workforce.
Mr. Mahama pointed out that the cocoa processing facility would play a crucial role in his industrialisation agenda, which seeks to create industrial hubs across the country, particularly in agriculturally productive regions.
He said this facility would also reduce the exportation of raw cocoa by processing it locally.
