Presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has made a commitment to tackle the pressing issue of housing in Ghana, pledging that the next NDC government will prioritize the passage of the Rent Control Bill. This legislation aims to protect tenants from the unfair burden of paying excessive rent advances, often exceeding one year’s rent.

In a meeting with the National Tenants Union in his office in Accra, Mr. Mahama outlined his comprehensive plan to address the country’s significant housing deficit. He promised to embark on a nationwide project to build affordable housing units, making homeownership a reality for many Ghanaians.

Mahama acknowledged the fundamental need for housing, emphasizing that it is a basic human right. He expressed empathy for the approximately 19 million individuals in Ghana who are currently renting and struggling to make ends meet. The former President reaffirmed his dedication to creating a brighter future for all citizens, with access to affordable housing being a pivotal aspect of this vision.

By tackling the housing crisis, Mahama aims to improve the living conditions and overall well-being of Ghanaians, ensuring that everyone has a safe and secure place to call home.
